The agreement, in plain words.

1. This is not medical advice

Zabel is an information tool. It reads labels and applies a published method to them. It does not know your medical history, it is not a clinician, and nothing it shows you is a diagnosis, a treatment, or a recommendation about your health.

If you are managing a condition, are pregnant, have an allergy, or are choosing food for a child, decide with a qualified professional. Do not rely on a score from this app instead of them.

Allergen information deserves saying twice: a label we transcribed is not a substitute for the label on the pack in your hand. If an allergy is serious, read the pack.

2. What we are trying to get right, and where we will not manage it

The catalogue is built from labels - photographed, transcribed, and checked by a person before publication - and from Open Food Facts. We work hard at accuracy, and we will still sometimes be wrong: a label is reformulated, a panel is misread, a pack size changes and the old figures linger.

So we do not warrant that every reading is correct or current, and the pack always wins over us. When you find a mistake, the “report a problem” button and the contact page both reach a person, and a correction fixes it for everyone.

3. The score is a method, not a verdict

The health score is our published arithmetic applied to what a label declares. It is not a safety rating, not a regulatory judgement, and not a claim that a product is good or bad for you specifically. The method is versioned and its inputs are shown with every score precisely so you can disagree with it on the evidence.

4. Using the app

You agree not to:

• scrape, bulk-download or resell the catalogue, or use the API outside the app;
• upload photographs of anything other than food packaging;
• upload anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to upload;
• attempt to break, overload or work around the limits on the service;
• present our readings or scores as your own, or as somebody else’s.

We may suspend access that does any of these. For anything that looks like a genuine misunderstanding we will write to you first.

5. What you send us

You keep ownership of the photographs and messages you send. You give us permission to use them to read the label, to check that reading, and to improve the catalogue and the method. We do not publish your photographs.

Photographs are deleted after 90 days - see the privacy page.

6. Accounts

An account is optional and exists so your history and saved list follow you to another device. Keep access to the phone number or Google account it is tied to; anyone with those can get into it. Ask us and we will close it and delete what it holds.

7. Data we did not create

Part of the catalogue comes from Open Food Facts and is used under the Open Database Licence. Product names, brands and packaging belong to their owners; they appear here to identify the product, which is not sponsorship and not endorsement in either direction.

8. Availability

We do not promise the service is always up. It is a small operation, it will have outages, and we will say so when it does rather than leaving you to guess. The app keeps your history and saved packs on the device so an outage does not take them with it.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of Zabel or from relying on a reading - and where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited, including fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

10. Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top moves when we do, and a change that affects you materially will be said in the app rather than left here to be discovered.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
